Brett Risher – South Walton High School

The Faces of Walton County is pleased to introduce graduating senior, Brett Risher. Read all about him and congratulate him when you see him!

What is your favorite subject, or are you following a certain career path? “My favorite subject is American History, though I’m following a career in Aerospace Engineering.”

Are you involved in sports or any other extracurricular activities? “No, I chose to focus on school rather than playing a sport.”

What will you miss about your school or classmates when you graduate? “I will miss seeing my friends in the hallway between classes and getting to sit with friends at lunch.”

Please tell us about your current plans after high school. And what inspired you to choose this path? “I plan to attend North West Florida State College for 2 years then transfer to the college of my choice.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? “I hope to see myself as a college graduate working in my field.”

Please tell us a little bit about your family. “My family is all from Louisiana but some of us have branched out to other states around Louisiana.  We’re a big family and are always looking out for one another.”

What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community? “Some of my restaurants have to be Acme Oyster House, Fat Daddy’s Pizza, and 98 Barbecue.”

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community? “The most interesting person I’ve met in my community would have to be my girlfriend. She’s the most unique person I’ve ever met.”

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?  “I would go to France because I have always wanted to see the sights that France has to offer. It is also where my ancestors are from before they immigrated to Louisiana before it was sold to America.”

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?  “My favorite movies are Star Wars, The Phantom Menace, The Empire Strikes Back, and Forrest Gump. My favorite TV show would have to be Star Wars The Clone Wars.”

What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher? “The best advice I have ever heard from a teacher would have to be, ‘Dont let anyone stop you from being yourself and from following your dreams.’  That teacher isn’t teaching anymore.”

Who inspires you to be better? “My parents inspire me to be better because they want to see me follow my passions.”

If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose, why, and where would you go? “I would have lunch with Elon Musk, I do not know what restaurant I would go to but I would ask him what he did to succeed in life.”

What is your favorite thing about living in Walton County? “My favorite thing is that the food is amazing.”

Favorite month,  holiday, and best single day on the calendar?  “My favorite month is March because it is when everything starts to warm up outside. My favorite holiday is Christmas because I get to see all of my family. My favorite day on the calendar is 10/13 because it is when I met my girlfriend.”

How has being quarantined changed your life?  “I don’t get to walk across a stage when I graduate and I do not get a senior prom. I miss sitting with friends at lunch and getting to interact with my teachers.”

Who or what do you miss the most right now? “I miss my friends and I miss going to school.”

What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?  “Visit my family in New Orleans.”
