Whitney Quin

Whitney Quin is someone to be admired. She  has a deep love for care giving, teaching, and for promoting the livelihood of loved ones. From tutoring children to dog sitting, she does it all and offers a great service to our community.
Whitney has lived in Walton County for three and a half years.  She is originally from Atlanta, Georgia and is blessed with two sets of parents. Her mother and most of her mother’s side of the family still live in Buckhead, which is a community in the city of Atlanta. Her dad and his wife and kids live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. As a child, she vacationed every summer in Ponte Vedra.  She grew up visiting the beaches of Florida with friends and both sides of the family and always wanted to live at the beach.
Please tell us about your current career and things you love most about what you do. “I have always been passionate about helping others. That is what motivates me in my work. Currently, I am tutoring two children who are struggling academically to help them graduate from 1st and 4th grade this year. It brings me joy to be a support to them both academically and emotionally. I am also passionate about care giving for seniors. Last winter and spring, I was blessed to care for a 91-year-old woman/snowbird from Maine. I also help out 10 hours a week at Somerby Assisted Living in Santa Rosa Beach as well and am very close with the residents. I have always loved being a light in their day. They are very dear to my heart. I also enjoy providing childcare for vacationers to 30A. I get really excited to send one of my awesome sitters to meet and care for children who are visiting. Many of the families on vacation I know from having worked with children for over 20 years in Atlanta and other places. Many of them are old friends or friends of friends from Atlanta and other places in the South. It’s fun to send them great sitters that I know they will love and appreciate! I cannot leave out the pups and animals I get to care for. I love animals! I love doing walks, overnights, and doggy day care. Currently, I am taking care of a 14-year-old Shih Tzu. She is so precious. Spending time with animals is one of the things I love most about what I do.”
What inspired you or led you to your current career? “Having taken care of children, tutored and taught, provided care giving services for the elderly and pets for 20+ years is what inspired me to start Quin Care Florida.”
What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community? “The white sandy beaches and beautiful water are definitely my favorite things about living in South Walton!”
What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community? “Great Southern and Bud & Alley’s are two of my all-time favorites. I loved coming to Seaside growing up. I have loved eating with friends and enjoying the beach life, food and wine at both places.”
If you could choose anyone, who would you have lunch with and where would you go locally? “I would probably want to have lunch with a musician. I am a huge music fan. Maybe John Lennon or Bob Marley. Others would be MLK, Jr or Einstein. Both would be fascinating. There are so many – that’s a tough question. I know I would want to have lunch with them somewhere on the water. There are lots of great spots on the water here, and I would go to any that are not crowded.”
What is something on your bucket list? “I love to travel, so bucket list spots are Greece, Machu Picchu, Tahiti and Palawan. There are more, but I will keep it short this time.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? “Living near water – the beach! That I know for sure. I am also certain my business and passion to help others will continue to grow and expand. It will take me many places, I am sure.”
What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you? “I speak Spanish and love it! I used to teach kids Spanish, and I studied abroad in Granada, Spain. I love traveling to Spanish speaking countries.”
What is the most beautiful place you have ever been? “Wow, that’s tough! I would have to say Lake Tahoe is probably one of the most beautiful. I lived there after college and taught skiing on the mountain, so I have an affinity for that area and the West Coast. Also, the Algarve region in Portugal as well as St. John, Virgin Islands are definitely gorgeous.”
Who inspires you to be better? “I do. I think I may be my toughest critic. I am also inspired by my clients who make me want to do the best job I possibly can for them.”
